I put this over a futon mattress I'm using on a platform bed..This pad really helped the comfort level for me. I really appreciate the cover to be on the pad..seems so much more like a "thing" and not so much DIY as a raw foam..it also protects from tears. No bad smells with this..none really. I do not weigh a lot, 115 lbs. A heavier person might sink in more? I think persons who expect this to fill the function of a full mattress should look for a mattress, but as a topper..it's very thick and supportive. I've had this for a few mos and it is still in very good shape. I would think it superior to many others of this type.
