Aquabot Turbo T2 Robotic In-ground Pool Cleaner Review

I purchased an Aquabot when it first came out for an in-ground caged pool back in Florida. Had a Kreepy Krawley before that. Both worked great for cleaning up ants, sand and other minute debris that might work through the pool cage when it rained.

Ten years go by. I now live in the mid-Atlantic region. Have a 20 x 40 in-ground open sky saltwater pool with heat pump, sand filter and an AutoPilot saltwater chlorinating system. I bought another Aquabot... but this time bought the Turbo T-4 w/ remote from[...] online. I was sold on being able to do quick pool touch-ups using the remote control, and a 4 year warranty.

Worked great at first, but the advantages quickly fade when used in the 'no pool cage' pool. Leaves, acorns, pine needles, tiny twigs and anything else the wind feels like blowing into the pool will quickly fill up the small filter bag. That means stop the cleaner, lift it out, open it, empty it, clean it, reassemble the little headache... and toss it back in the pool. The first time it's a minor inconvenience. From then on it's flat out bothersome.

Be careful not to leave it running in the pool believing it will automatically turn off, or automatically reverse on stairs or pool ladders, as implied. That's how it trashed itself the first time. It got stuck on a step and wore down every wearable part. It never reversed, or shut off, as promoted.

So I called [...] where it was purchased. They gave me a ticket number and told me to box it up and ship it back. I sent it back thinking these guys would cover it. Not the case. Once they had it back they determined everything worked fine, and they didn't warranty 'wear and tear'. It would cost $600+ for new rubber belts, tread, paddles, power cord and seals... or they could just send it back as is.

OK. Fool me once. But it's fixed. Got it back. Threw it in the pool. Worked fine. Once. A week goes by. I throw it the pool. Turn it on and go to work. Upon returning home, I find the little computerized monster has pitched a fit... and one rubber tired is running in one direction while the other is motionless. As such it twisted itself and the power cord into a knot, with the machine spinning in one spot wearing itself out... again. I'm steamed. I yank it out and set it aside somewhere out of the way. I call the local pool company and tell them to cover and close the pool down for the winter. A couple of months go by, and I decide to call back my friends at the Aquabotsuperstore.

Got them on the phone. Told them the story. They gave me a ticket number and said ship it back. I went to the UPS store, packed it up, paid $75 and shipped it back. This time the warranty will surely cover the product's failure, right? There's no way they'll deny it this time.

Not the case. Fooled me twice. They tell me a drive belt broke. It's completely missing and it'll cost $250. (Picture my ears steaming like a whistling teapot) After 15 minutes arguing in circles with the manager, he 'cuts me a break' and will only charge me $30 for the cost of the belt. I pay the ransom and the machine arrives back after a few days.

In conclusion: I will never buy another Aquabot product, nor any product from [...]. They are masters at the art of not honoring a warranty... and once you send an item back under the impression it's warrantied... there's more than likely only one way you'll get it back: $$$$
