Product Description
Powerfully smart. Beautifully quiet.
LG HOM-BOT Robot Vacuum Cleaner
Hom-Bot is a robot vacuum cleaner that you can schedule to clean your home when you want, whether you're home or not, and it does so quietly. Hom-Bot maps your home so it always knows where it is, and never misses a spot. It even returns to the base and recharges itself. With a smart, seamless, and slim design, Hom-Bot makes cleaning smarter and easier than ever before.
Mutli-tasker
Dirt can't hide from Hom-Bot. It has a powerful main brush for dirt throughout the home and side brushes for edges and corners. The side brushes sweep corners and edges while the main brush picks up heavier dirt and dust. The fan picks up more debris and expands clean air while it also features an efficient air path for hygiene and less noise.
Knows where to clean
With a camera mounted on the bottom, Hom-Bot maps the area around your home as it cleans. It also calculates the optimal cleaning paths to make sure it doesn't miss a spot. Scheduled cleaning (2, 6, 12 hour timer) so your home is spotless when you return home. It even features auto-recharging and will resume cleaning where it left off. Sensors around the side of the vacuum prevent the vacuum from falling down stairs/tables or bumping into walls.
Clean on your schedule
You control when you want Hom-Bot to clean, whether you're going to be home or not. Just set the schedule and Voice Alert announcements will let you know when the cleaning is done.
Quiet clean
While Hom-Bot's cleaning technology makes people take notice, it still manages to clean quietly, thanks to smart design features like insulation that's meant to absorb vibrations and reduce noise. It creates low noise so you can carry on your daily activities without interference – just an incredible 50dB.
Hassle-free charging
The Hom-Bot will automatically return to its dock when it needs recharging, and resume cleaning where it left off after the battery is charged. So you have even less to worry about.
Sensors and movement
Anti-collision optical sensors: while other robots vacuum too far from the walls or have to collide into walls to turn, the Hom-bot automatically recognizes the location of the wall and turns. Also includes stair recognition, edge cleaning, over carpets and under furniture.
Features:
- Single Eye Mapping system (Magellan Mapping)
- Total Clean
- Scheduled Cleaning
- Battery Charge Docking Station
LG HomBot 1.0 Robotic Vacuum Review
A couple of questions someone might have in evaluating whether the LG Hom-Bot 1.0 is right for them may be:1) Is an automated vacuum robot right for me?
2) Should I buy this over a Roomba?
In answer to question 1), my thoughts on these types of devices are this. They are an awesome little tool to add to your vacumming arsenal, but not in my humble opinion a direct substitute for a full size vac. I now have a Roomba 780 and the LG Hom-Bot. For me these make excellent hard floor dusters adding another weeapon to keep the pesky dust bunnies at bay while allowing you to attend to other things.
Here are the pros and cons of the particular unit as I see them:
Pros:
* Super quiet. In comparison to the Roomba, it is like the LG isn't even on.
* Sleek and modern design. To me the Roomba design is slightly better, but the LG still looks quite good in my opinion.
* Automated vacuum. How awesome is that? Kicking off a little bot to do the vacuuming is much nicer than having to do it yourself.
* Single filter with metal mesh. The filter design looks to me to be of a more durable design than the Roomba design as the metal mesh should keep large debris from tearing up the pleated paper filter.
* Included remote. Let's you kick off the bot from a distance and choose cleaning mode. (Batteries are inlcuded.)
* Multiple cleaning modes.
* Includes extra set of cleaning brushes and filter.
Cons:
* No date time funtion.
* Rounded top edge prone to getting itself wedged under things. This is just a very bad design decision im my opinion. Instead of having a square front edge being the determinant of whether it can fit under something the rounded top edge lets the units impact detection slide forward until the top edge gets wedged under something like a kitchen cabinet overhang. Dumb.
* Very limited when dealing with height differences. The LG got easily stuck when trying to travel over a small throw carpet. To it's benefit when the LG gets stuck it will reverse itself on it's own.
* Is not recommended for use with carpets with tassles. (The Roomba is OK with these types of carpets.)
* Poor edge performance. The LG just didn't seem to get as tight to corners and wall edges as the Roomba does.
* No included boundary towers.
* Small dust bin. (Systematic it seems to all these vac bots.)
* Replaceable filters. Bagless vac means replacing filters more often - a trait it shares with the Roomba.
* Not truly set and forget it. Like the Roomba, you still have to prepare a room. Do you leave doors open to allow it to go from room to room or do you shut them so it can get behind them. Do you raise the chairs? Automated vacuuming isn't exactly 100% automated.
* Does not have a handle. (Roomba does.)
Comparison to the Roomba:
Currently, the LG Hom-Bot is approximately the same price as the Roomba 780. After having used the 780, I can easily recommend the Roomba over the LG. The LG just doesn't perform as well in corners or wall edges, doesn't perform in difficult situations (e.g. carpets tassles, thick carpet), doesn't have the accessories that the Roomba includes (e.g Barrier towers), and includes silly design choices that limit it's usefulness.
Summary:
If sound is of the utmost concern, then by all means purchase the LG. If better performance while sacrificing sound levels is your goal then I would definitely recommend choosing the Roomba 780, or even the cheaper 770, over the LG Hom-Bot 1.0. The Roomba is just a better machine.
