I had purchased numerous grinders before finally investing in the Mazzer Mini. At the time I was considering purchasing a Rocky grinder, but everything I read indicated that anyone that buys a Rocky eventually buys a Mazzer. Like other reviewers said, this thing is built like a tank. What's more, virtually every part of this machine can be purchased separately in case of breakage / damage (like the hopper, hopper lid, doser lid, crumb tray, burrs).

I am still on my original set of burrs, having between 1 and 6 drinks a day for 8 years, and I'm still getting a consistently perfect grind. One note on usage, though, is that you have to be prepared to tweak the grind setting occassionally. As the beans age (I roast at home) or the weather/humidity changes it affects how fine or course the grind must be to "time right" in your machine.

If you're not roasting yet, you should seriously consider starting. Roasting is the single biggest thing I can think of to improve your home coffee/espresso-- more than prosumer machines or high-end grinders. Of course, these other things help too. For more information on roasting, check out Sweet Marias (not linking the site because I don't think that would fly). The Behmor 1600 roaster has been solid for me as well.
