Even though its not wood its pretty heavy. The packages were shipped properly. After receiving the two packages, I had to take out the contents from the boxes individually and move them to my office. The parts were dusty, likely due to the shipping, and I had to wipe each part with a damp cloth prior to assembly. And then it took me a few days to assemble - devoting several hours each day. The instructions were clear and once it was assembled, it looks exactly as it was displayed online. The assembly is not for the faint-hearted - need to be careful with the parts and pay close attention to the directions. One thing to note, even after paying meticulous attention to the directions, the drawers were not aligned properly. It took a few trial and errors to correct the alignment. Now that its all done, I'm happy with the desk.
