I put this on top of an older, high quality, hard as rock, mattress. The mattress was in fine shape but began to create pressure points on my hip when I sleep on my side. This was a result of my getting older; the mattress is still in fine shape.

I investigated getting a new mattress but the only ones that seemed comfortable to me were over $1,800. Even for this amount of money, I don't think they are as well made as my current mattress.

So I took a chance that this $360 topper would work. Both my wife and I are extremely happy with the comfort that this adds without affecting the underlying support. We've slept on this topper for over a week and both of us are sleeping better. All in all, it feels at least as comfortable as the high-end mattresses at the store and the talalay latex (vs. polyurethane) foam should outlast them by many years.

My old mattress was 9.5 - 10" thick. With this topper and a mattress pad, all of our sheets still fit with room to spare. I also ordered a SnugFleece wool pad that hasn't arrived yet. I can't imagine any improvement, but we'll see.

UPDATE 6/12/12
So it's been a few months now and it continues to exceed expectations. I tried the SnugFleece, but had to send it back due to the lingering "barnyard" smell. I think any mattress pad will work well with it, without spending another $280.
