We LOVE our OptiMyst! It's everything we expected and more. Living in an 1100 sq ft condo, a fireplace ( or the illusion of one) was the only thing we have been missing. The LEDs illuminating the perfectly placed 'logs' is hugely realistic. The vapor/smoke makes the 'fire' look even more authentic; the only thing missing is the crackling sound of wood burning.
It is an insert but an encasement/mantel can be easily built. We used teak on top and wire mesh framed in teak for the sides to aid ventilation. It's a very cool addition to our home.
Also the company from which it was purchased was prompt, attentive and accurate with answers to our questions concerning the fireplace and shipping info.
It has truly exceeded our expectations.
We very much enjoy the option of a lot of heat, low heat, or no heat while the 'flame' and 'embers' remain constant. We find our dogs napping in front of it! Comes with a remote too.
